Description
Sitagliptin Tablets I.P. 100 mg
Sitagliptin Tablets I.P. 100 mg is an oral antihyperglycemic agent that belongs to the class of DPP-4 (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4) inhibitors. It is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
Mechanism of Action:
Sitagliptin works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which results in increased levels of incretin hormones. These hormones help regulate blood glucose by:
- Increasing insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Decreasing glucagon secretion from alpha cells
This dual action helps lower fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.
Indications:
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications)
- Particularly useful in patients who are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone
Dosage:
- Recommended Dose: 100 mg once daily, with or without food
- Dose adjustment may be required in patients with renal impairment
Precautions:
- Monitor renal function regularly
- Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis
- Should not be used as a substitute for insulin in insulin-requiring patients
