Description
Ofloxacin, Metronidazole & Simethicone Suspension
This suspension is a triple-action formulation combining an antibiotic (Ofloxacin), an antiprotozoal/antibacterial (Metronidazole), and an anti-flatulent (Simethicone). It is designed to treat a wide range of gastrointestinal infections in pediatric patients, along with relieving associated symptoms such as bloating and gas.
Indication Ofloxacin, Metronidazole & Simethicone Suspension
- Acute or chronic diarrhea of bacterial or protozoal origin
- Gastrointestinal infections, including amoebiasis and giardiasis
- Traveler’s diarrhea
- Dysentery
- Abdominal bloating and flatulence are associated with infections
Mechanism of Action:
- Ofloxacin: Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, leading to bacterial cell death.
- Metronidazole: Enters protozoa and anaerobic bacteria cells, where it interferes with DNA synthesis, causing cell death.
- Simethicone: Physically alters the surface tension of gas bubbles in the GI tract, enabling their easier elimination and relieving discomfort.
Dosage and Administration:

- Shake well before use.
- Administer after meals to minimize gastric irritation.
Contraindications:

Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction or seizure disorders.

- Monitor for signs of superinfection with prolonged use.
Storage:

- Protect from light.
- Keep out of reach of children.
